• Digital Ink, Loc Chu (2026) — Digital Procreate on iPad 4050 x 3240px For this character design I based it off the elegance and allure of ink as a medium. Originally, I had drafted two-character designs one based off western culture the other off eastern culture. I chose to work on the western inspired design because I like what I had drafted up for it more than the eastern one. The base of the design and outfit was inspired by 1900s fashion from 1900-1920s and Betty Boop. Taking most of my inspiration for the design from 1920s flappers. While designing the character I knew I wanted to incorporate things associated with ink such as a pen nib which became a motif I tried to incorporate throughout the design. The most noticeable usage of the motif is in her chest, with the cutout of the dress being in the shape of a nib and the strap running into her cleavage crating the center line and circle found on pen nibs. Smaller usage include her hand and claw accessories and the tips of her shoes. The wide brimmed hat was inspired the wide hats of the early 1900s but also ink wells as I had drafted up an illustration in which she used the feather on her hat which is a nod to quill and ink to sign the screen as she hold her hat filled with ink. The fishnet veil on her head is me referencing hatching and crosshatching a common technique used in ink work to create texture and values. The gold in her design was to emphasize the elegance aspect of her inspiration while also contrasting with the mostly dark gray and black of her design. While burgundy coat was meant to immediately catch the viewers eyes focus their attention onto her.
